It can help you achieve specific objectives such as:

Generate new business leads and sales
Increase sales from existing customers
Re-establish relationships with dormant customers
Increase customer loyalty
Direct marketing is an especially useful tool for small business because it allows you to:
Focus your resources where they are likely to generate the best results
Speak directly to current and potential customers
Track and measure how successful your marketing campaigns are
Test your marketing campaigns to see which ones work best
The most common form of direct marketing is direct mail – sending letters to targeted consumer groups through the post. Direct mail is used by all types of businesses, to acquire and retain customers and encourage sales. If you understand your customers and target your mailing effectively, direct mail can be a highly personal, highly successful form of marketing.
Another popular form of direct marketing is telemarketing– contacting targeted consumers directly by telephone. Telemarketing does have some significant advantages over direct mail such as:
You can gauge the customers interest immediately
You can overcome objections more easily
You can explain complex messages more effectively
Telemarketing is particularly useful in business-to-business (B2B) marketing as people are more accepting of marketing calls interrupting them at work.
Email marketing is one of the newest forms of direct marketing and it is continuing to grow in popularity. According to figures from the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), email marketing has now overtaken direct mail in terms of volume. Advantages of email marketing are that it is often much quicker and cheaper to produce an email marketing campaign than a direct mail campaign.
Whatever method of direct marketing you use, you must bear in mind that the success of your campaign depends on good planning, targeting and accurate, up to date data. Because of the large amount of direct marketing sent, you have to work hard to make sure your investment doesn’t end up in the bin.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT iPhone 3G

                       BE CAREFUL ABOUT iPhone 3G

We all know apple is running innovative strategy to spellbound customers and we admire that
True innovation based company Apple launched a new product that is iphone 3g (http://www.apple.com/iphone/) and they are claiming iphone 3g twice as fast . half the price. They also stated, “ you will get phone, ipod, internet in one fast 3g device. Starting at $199.”
Some of my friends are getting crazy about this new iphone 3g. Thanks to apple and their marketing team, they have really done a great job. They have created this image. But think what will happen if you buy the product and after that you find you are not getting your expected service. Now you can say “ bull shit” but you cannot get rid of your contract. So it’s better to know the real facts before buying this miracle phone. Techtree news staff (9th august, 2008) from India (http://www.techtree.com/India/News/10_Reasons_Why_You_Should_Hate_the_iPhone/551-92001-615.html) brought some reasons. Why people should hate the iPhone.

1. You can only sync music and video through iTunes:

Want to drag-and-drop content from your hard-drive? Would like to sync music from another store -- from Amazon, for example? You are out of luck.

2. You can only install apps through iTunes:

Never before has a cellphone maker slammed the door to an open development enviornment and received nothing but praise for doing so. Imagine Microsoft creating a gated software ecosystem and installing themselves as the gatekeeper. They would be eaten alive by the press. Apple gets a free pass.

3. Apple deletes useful applications:

Nullriver's modem app went to the grave with no reason stated. Apple's digital business is dependent on the music and movie industry's whims. How long before the industry dictates which applications we can run?

4. Apple might not accept apps which might be detrimental to its own business:

We won't hold our breath for competitive products to appear on the iPhone anytime soon.

5. You can only run one third-party application at a time:

An instant messenger that runs in the background and collects messages while you are away? Not happening.

6. Apple might not allow app vendors to open up their apps:

The terms of the NDA that potential application developers for the iPhone need to sign, effectively restrict redistribution of the source. Apple has created OSX on the back of FreeBSD; Safari on KHTML, SproutCore library used in MobileMe, and now they have built a layer on top that excludes others. Nik at TechCrunchIT laments that "the same community who demand all from Microsoft, feel gifted and special when Apple give them an inch of rope... Applications can only be installed from a single source, iTunes, and open source applications and distribution is near impossible. How do you install an iPhone application without iTunes? Where are the community advocates arguing for a standard interface, openess and free code?"

7. Limited Bluetooth use:

The iPhone 3G has Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR but can you transfer files over Bluetooth? Does it support A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth? No on all counts. As of now, all you get from Bluetooth are headset voice calls, and that's it.

8. No copy-paste:

This might be more of an interface issue that Apple is seeking to solve, than anything else. But it only underlines the drawbacks of a walled garden. If development was as open as say, it is on the Palm platform -- you would have a hundred different solutions by now, and at least one you could actually use. This also underlines how much the innovative spirit is killed by a controlled development environment. The iPhone ecosystem doesn't encourage software tinkering and probably won't spur garage breakthroughs that drive the industry forward.

9. No MMS :

While you can e-mail photos, multimedia messaging is absent from the device. And speaking of videos...

10. No video recording:

In the world of YouTube, the iPhone 3G does not offer video recording.

11. No voice command:

For a touch-screen-only phone, voice controls would have been a huge plus for hands-free or one-handed control. Can we expect this functionality to be added by a third-party app?

12. Hardware locked to carriers:

You cannot use any SIM card with this GSM device. How stupid is that? Hello monopolies, goodbye competition. Thanks to carrier lock-in when the phone launches in India, the iPhone 3G might not even enjoy 3G until months afterwards. How do you like them apples?

Dan Frommer. (August 05, 2008, 12.40 am) reported a very good news stating a headline

“Steve Jobs: MobileMe "Not Up To Apple's Standards," Vows To Fix (AAPL)”

(Source:http://www.alleyinsider.com/2008/8/your-itunes-library-anywhere-an-iphone-no-brainer-for-apple-aapl-#slide_4)

Apple has already apologized publicly to its MobileMe customers for the email/syncing service's flakiness -- including, for some, lost email. Now it's privately admitting its mistakes and moving on -- but not without casualty.

In an internal email leaked to Ars Technica, Apple (AAPL) boss Steve Jobs allegedly admits that MobileMe is "not up to Apple's standards," and that launching it at the same time as the iPhone 3G and the iTunes App Store was "a mistake."

And it looks like someone is going to pay for it: In a reorg of sorts, Jobs announced the project will now fall under iTunes exec Eddie Cue, who will now oversee iTunes, the App Store, and MobileMe, as Apple's Vice President of Internet Services, according to Daring Fireball's John Gruber. We assume this means someone (or multiple people) got shown the door. (Know more? Drop us a line.)

"The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services," Jobs wrote. "And learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year."
Admitting that MobileMe is a dog is the right move, and we also wouldn't be surprised if Steve Jobs or Apple made another public statement about MobileMe's botched launch.

And while MobileMe now has a soiled reputation -- including a rare bad review from Wall Street Journal tech reviewer Walt Mossberg -- we still think it has potential to be a long-term success. If the mobile Internet becomes anywhere near as important as it's hyped, everyone is going to need a personal over-the-air email/calendar/contacts synching service. For iPhone owners, once Apple irons out the quirks, there's no reason it couldn't/shouldn't be MobileMe.

Following that apple is not considering LINUX as their parent operating system because WINDOWS is the best platform for HACKERS and VIRUS. When Linux is winning the ultra portable PC market, they (APPLE) are not considering it warm heartedly.

Finally I want to conclude with this report where a user of iPhone sharing her horrible experience about iphone. Walter S. Mossberg. (July 08, 2008) stating a heading-

“with Newer, faster , cheaper Iphone 3g”

(source : http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20080708/newer-faster-cheaper-iphone-3g/ )

Apple claims that over 3G, the new iPhone can get five hours of talk time, or five hours of Internet use. Talk time is twice as long on the older EDGE network, and Internet time is an hour better with Wi-Fi.

I ran my own battery tests using the phone’s 3G capability. Although I left the Wi-Fi function on, I didn’t connect it to a network, so the phone had to rely on 3G. In my test of voice calling, I got 4 hours and 27 minutes, short of Apple’s maximum claim and nearly three hours less than what I recorded in the same test last year on the original iPhone..
More important, in daily use, I found the battery indicator on the new 3G model slipping below 20% by early afternoon or midafternoon on some days, and it entirely ran out of juice on one day.

The iPhone 3G’s battery life is comparable to, or better than, that of some other 3G competitors. But they have replaceable batteries. The iPhone doesn’t.

While you can have both personal and Exchange email accounts on the new iPhone, if you synchronize with Exchange calendars and contacts, your personal calendar and contacts are erased.

So if you want to lose your money please buy it, if not then please wait for few days while Apple will resolve their problems and you can get your dream iphone.

Information technology

Information technology (IT), as defined by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), is "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." In short, IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information, securely.
Recently it has become popular to broaden the term to explicitly include the field of electronic communication so that people tend to use the abbreviation ICT (Information and Communications

Today, the term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The information technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include:
Data management
Computer networking
Database systems design
Software design
Management information systems
Systems management
A more extensive list of related topics is provided below.

politics are depending on internet?????

Internet is not only using for business but also for establishing political image. When Malaysia’s former deputy prime minister was dismissed from his post and subsequently charged in court for corruption, his supporters resorted to the Internet to tell their side of the story. Thus, pro-Answer websites were created and disseminated messages to Internet users locally as well as abroad. The government reacted by creating pro-government websites, both locally as well as abroad. Thus, the Internet became yet another medium that both sides resorted to in trying to get the people's attention

Great expectations: The changing role of IT in business

CIOs and IT managers today face no shortage of challenges, from overseeing the convergence of voice and data networks to grappling with compliance, data security and tight spending budgets. Their jobs are set to become tougher: CEOs and boards expect information technology‘s mission to expand from cost cutting to revenue generation, and relatively quickly.
This is among the major findings of a new Economist Intelligence Unit research programme, sponsored by Capgemini, Cisco Systems and SAP, on the evolution of IT‘s role within the business. The study is based on a global survey of 288 senior executives in both technology and business functions as well as in-depth interviews with senior IT executives.
Other key findings of the research include the following:
An “expectations gap” exists between IT and the executive suite. Most technology managers (62%) also believe that enabling revenue generation will come to be IT‘s primary mission within the next three years, but CEOs and board members (83%) are almost wholly convinced of it. The gap yawns particularly wide in Asia-Pacific and Europe, where many IT managers retain a strong belief in the primacy of IT‘s cost-reduction role—partly due to continued C-level insistence on hitting cost-efficiency targets. This gap will need to close—and C-level priorities to become more consistent— for better IT-business alignment to be achieved.
Organisational and technical solutions will be tapped to improve IT‘s fit with the business objectives. The acquisition of new technologies tops the list of initiatives that survey respondents, including CEOs, hope will improve the level of IT-business alignment. But organisational measures are also prominent: all executives place strong emphasis on joint project management responsibility between IT and business managers, as well as the use of cross-functional teams.
Some decentralisation of IT functions to other business units is also likely. The beginning of the end of the IT department as we know it? The majority of surveyed executives think not, at least for the next five years. But as many CEOs and board members (41%) foresee the disappearance of a stand-alone IT department as those who do not. More than a few companies appear ready to consider radical solutions to bring IT and the business closer together....... " Unless you've been living under a rock, the availability of porn on the Net is very old news. And while the amount of porn on the Net is staggeringly large, as a percentage of total web pages, it appears to be declining.

Here's a quick look at three snapshots in time: 1999 using AltaVista, one of the then largest search engines, and 2004 and 2007 using Google.

Number of pages

Subject........... 1999.............. 2004.......................2007

sex 14,896,710 347,000,000 425,000,000

politics 2,996,060 62,900,000 247,000,000

wine 2,324,620 57,000,000 230,000,000

dogs 1,893,440 35,600,000 158,000,000

Clearly, there are a lot of sources for someone seeking pornographic materials on the Internet. Nonetheless, many parents trust their children not to go looking for this material. "Oh, my kids wouldn't be interested in looking for that," was a common reaction among the parents we spoke with. A debatable point, according to some of our teenage reviewers.

But what was not debatable was the reaction we found among a group of parents SuperKids recently invited to search the Web. Most expressed significant surprise -- not at the availability of pornography on the Net -- but at the frequency of unintentional exposures any Web searcher or surfer will receive.

How easy is it to accidentally encounter pornography?

For example, a shopper's search for young boys clothes on Excite! produced four objectionable sites in the top ten search results. Click here to see an example of what we encountered. Similar results were obtained using all the other search engines we tried: AltaVista, HotBot, Infoseek, and WebCrawler.
OK, you say. But my kids aren't likely to look up "young boys clothes." Here's another reasonable search for a young student -- zoo animals. This search produced a result on HotBot that was even more(!) objectionable than our previous search.
Parents, therefore, need to consider not only whether their children really have no interest in seeking out pornography, but also whether they want their children unintentionally exposed to age-inappropriate materials.

What should parents do?

Banning all access to the Internet is one solution. Unfortunately, this draconian approach carries with it a huge educational disadvantage; the Internet today is the greatest single educational reference resource available. More information, from more sources, is available here than in any library in the world.

Personally supervising all Internet access is another solution. This is great, if you have the time.
Installing a software filter, to provide a technology fix, is another possiblity. SuperKids has reviewed a selection of the these programs. They range in effectiveness from near-total, with programs that limit access to sites pre-selected by parents (e.g. KidDesk Internet Safe), to programs that screen all website addresses against massive lists of known objectionable sites (Cyber Patrol, Surf Watch), to one that uses heuristics to analyze a page's characteristics (WebChaperone).

Government regulation is another possiblity. Twice in the last three years, the Federal Government has passed laws trying to prevent minors from accessing pornographic materials on the Internet. These attempts, however, have been ruled by the courts to violate the First Amendment to the Constitution. An injunction was issued on February 1, 1999, blocking the most recent attempt, the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), and the injunction was upheld by the Supreme Courth in 2002 and again in 2004. Bottom-line: There is a vast amount of pornographic material easily available on the Internet. At a minimum, make sure your children know your feelings about it, and what your expectations are for their behavior.
Perhaps more importantly for most parents, is the reality that frequent unintentional exposure to pornographic sites is unavoidable. Once again, making sure your children know how to handle this is crucial. If you have young children, you may want to seriously consider using one of the software filters SuperKids has reviewed.

What is Internet Pornography

Internet pornography is pornography that is distributed via the Internet, primarily via websites, peer-to-peer file sharing, or Usenet newsgroups. While pornography had been traded over the Internet since the 1980s, it was the invention of the World Wide Web in 1991 as well as the opening of the Internet to the general public around the same time that led to an explosion in online pornography.
Like videotapes and DVDs, the Internet has proven popular for distributing pornography because it allows people to view pornography (essentially) anonymously in the comfort and privacy of their homes. It also allows access to pornography by people whose access is otherwise restricted for legal or social reasons.

Top 10 Questions About Virtual PC 7

1. What is Virtual PC 7 for Mac?

Virtual PC is an emulation program that creates a separate Windows environment on the Mac desktop. Through some sophisticated software trickery, Virtual PC creates a "virtual machine" that runs right on your Mac. This virtual machine is much like a real computer — you can install an operating system on it, such as Windows XP, and you can install programs, such as Microsoft Access or Visio — all it lacks is actual hardware. The virtual machine appears in its own window on your Mac and you can switch easily between programs on your virtual machine and programs on your Mac.

2. Who should use it?

Virtual PC is for Macintosh users who sometimes need access to Windows-only programs such as Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Publisher, or Microsoft Access. By using Virtual PC you can have access to such programs without buying a new computer or giving up your Mac. Virtual PC also provides access to peripheral devices you might not be able to use otherwise, such as printers or scanners that don't run on the Mac.

3. What Macs does Virtual PC 7 run on?

Virtual PC 7 runs best on faster computers with plenty of memory, including G5 Macs. Your 700 MHz native (minimum) PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 Mac must be running Mac OS 10.2.8 - 10.4 and have at least 512 MB of RAM installed.

4. What operating systems can I run with on my virtual machine?

Virtual PC 7 comes with your choice of the following supported operating systems: Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows 2000 Professional. Note If you install an unsupported operating system, such as Windows 98, some features do not work. For example, Virtual Machine Additions cannot be installed on a virtual machine that is running on a non-supported operating system.

5. Can I keep my existing virtual machine when I upgrade to Virtual PC 7?

The answer depends on your current configuration. If you have Virtual PC 5.x or 6.x running a supported operating system, the answer is yes — you can install Virtual PC 7, and then import your existing virtual machine. If your existing virtual machine is running an unsupported operating system, you might be able to transfer documents to your new virtual machine.

6. Can I transfer information between platforms?

Yes. Here are three ways to do it:
Drag files To quickly copy a file between your Mac and your virtual machine, just drag the file where you want it.
Copy and paste Suppose you need to copy data from an Access database to an Excel worksheet on your Mac. First, open the Access file on your virtual machine and copy the information. Then switch to Excel for Mac, and paste. For details, see Copy and paste between your Mac and a virtual machine.
Share folders You can make a Mac folder and its contents available on your virtual machine. That way, changes you make to a file while working on one platform are reflected when you open the file on the other platform. For details, see Share files between your Mac and your virtual machine.

7. Can I use PC peripherals such as printers and scanners?

Yes. You can use the peripherals that you normally use with your Mac, or you can attach peripherals that can only be used with Windows-based PCs. For example, suppose you have a scanner that only works in a Windows-based environment. Simply switch to your virtual machine, connect the scanner and install its Windows-based driver, and you're ready to scan.

8. What's the difference between Virtual PC for Mac and Remote Desktop Connection Client (RDC) for Mac?

Both of these products are useful for people who sometimes need to access PC software from their Macintosh computers. But there are important differences.
Virtual PC allows you to run Windows-based programs directly on your Mac. You can create a virtual machine and then install Windows-based software on that machine.
RDC allows you to connect from your Mac to a Windows-based computer and work with programs and files on that computer. Learn more about Remote Desktop Connection Client.

9. What are Virtual Machine Additions?

Virtual Machine Additions help integrate a virtual machine with your Macintosh. For example, Virtual Machine Additions provide the ability to move the mouse freely between a virtual machine window and your Mac desktop, share folders between platforms, and display Windows-based program icons on the Macintosh Dock. Note If you install a version of Microsoft Windows that is included with Microsoft Virtual PC 7, Virtual Machine Additions are automatically installed on your virtual machine. If not, you must install (for a new virtual machine) or update (for a virtual machine that has been imported) Virtual Machine Additions. To learn how to do this, search Virtual PC Help for Virtual Machine Additions.

10. Does Virtual PC make my Mac more vulnerable to computer viruses?

Windows running on a virtual machine is less susceptible to viruses than Windows running on a PC. It is unlikely that a virus will affect the Mac OS or Mac files, but in certain circumstances your virtual machine running Windows exposes you to the same security risks that users running Windows on a Windows-based computer face. To lower your risk, make sure you have always installed the latest Windows security patches and service releases. To learn how to keep Windows up-to-date, search Virtual PC Help for Windows updates.

Project management software

Project management software is a term covering many types of software, including scheduling, cost control and budget management, resource allocation, collaboration software, communication, quality management and documentation or administration systems, which are used to deal with the complexity of large projects. The term covers a large variation of uses within the business environment, and can be categorized by using a small, medium and large matrix:
The small business market generally consists of home accounting software, and office suites such as Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org.

The medium size, or SME, has a broader range of software applications, ranging from accounting, groupware, customer relationship management, human resources software, loan origination software, shopping cart software, field service software, and other productivity enhancing applications.

The last segment covers enterprise level software applications, such as those in the fields of enterprise resource planning, enterprise content management (ECM), business process management and product lifecycle management. These applications are extensive in scope, and often come with modules that either add native functions, or incorporate the functionality of third-party software programs.

Now, technologies that have previously only existed in peer-to-peer software applications, like Kazaa and Napster, are starting to feature within business applications. JXTA is an open source platform that enables the creation of machine and language neutral applications. Peer based applications will be especially useful for aggregating the information at the edge of the network that currently resides in the neurons of the users themselves.

why do you need GOOGLE EARTH

Google Earth isn't just mapping software; it's a powerful tool for viewing, creating and sharing interactive and highly visual location-specific information.

Google earth community is working on health. Plazes is an interesting dynamic social networking KML which allows you to add your current location sharing your life with your friends and others. Just to the left of the time slider at the top, you will see a small icon that looks like a clock. Here you can change the speed of the animation. We would suggest setting this to the slowest. Maporama, a company that offers geolocalization and navigation services, was looking for a new solution to enhance its products and

websites."It has never been so easy for a company to add value to its applications and web sites thanks to these new customized mapping solutions," said Arnaud Gstach, Virtual Earth Business Development Manager for Southern Europe. "Web 2.0 is providing new opportunities and enabling our customers to re-think their solutions by easily integrating next-generation mapping services. Now interactions between maps and data are easy and accessible to all."As you probably know, the two solutions, Google Earth and Virtual Earth, are somehow similar because they offer almost the same functions, allowing the users to view satellite maps for free. In the recent period, both products were updated but the software giant Microsoft was more interested in the 3D side of its application."Thanks to Virtual Earth, the Maporama Intl service offer now includes fundamental mapping data enabling our customers to design new types of applications. Several industries (real estate, tourism, assistance, retail, call centers, banking and insurance) have expressed an interest in multi-dimensional visualization (bird’s eye and 3-D views) in additional to traditional mapping", said Danièle Drahy, Director of Operations for Maporama Intl.At this time, Google Earth is one of the most popular solutions on the Internet, offering revolutionary functions to all the users. The mapping tool was recently updated with a brand new feature that adds interoperability between the stand-alone application and the web-based service Google Maps, helping the users view a certain location straight in the window of their browser.

Role of Information Technology in Growth of Business

Information technology (IT) refers to the management and use of information using computer-based tools. It includes acquiring, processing, storing, and distributing information. Most commonly it is a term used to refer to business applications of computer technology, rather than scientific applications. The term is used broadly in business to refer to anything that ties into the use of computers.
Mostly businesses today create data that can be stored and processed on computers. In some cases the data must be input to computers using devices such as keyboards and scanners. In other cases the data might be created electronically and automatically stored in computers.
Small businesses generally need to purchase software packages, and may need to contract with IT businesses that provide services such as hosting, marketing web sites and maintaining networks. However, larger companies can consider having their own IT staffs to develop software, and otherwise handle IT needs in-house. For instance, businesses working with the federal government are likely to need to comply with requirements relating to making information accessible.
The constant upgrade in information technology, along with increasing global competition, is adding difficulty and hesitation of several orders of scale to the business and trade. One of the most widely discussed areas in recent business literature is that of new organizational network structures that hold survival and growth in an environment of growing complexity.
Effective implementation of information technology would decrease liability by reducing the cost of expected failures and increase flexibility by reducing the cost of adjustment. The businesses reaction to the environment remains to be the vital determinant for its effectiveness. The capabilities and flexibilities of computer-communication systems make them gradually more appropriate to businesses by being able to respond to any specific information or communication requirement.
Information Technology is having impact on all trade industries and businesses, in service as well as in manufacturing. It is affecting workers at all levels of organizations, from the executives to middle management and clerks. Information technology is increasingly becoming a basic factor of all types of technologies such as craft, engineering, routine, and non-routine.
The advances in Information Technology would result in remarkable decline in the costs of synchronization that would lead to new, concentrated business structures. It enables the business to respond to the new and urgent competitive forces by providing effective management of interdependence.
In the near future businesses would be facing a lack and a redundancy of information called information glut. To solve the information-glut companies will need to introduce methods for selective thinning out of information. Improvements in telecommunications will make it easier to control business units dispersed over different parts of the world. Advances in telecommunications, would result in increased distance-communication. Indirect communication would be preferred for well-structured information for routine, preprogrammed and decision processes.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Role-of-Information-Technology-in-Growth-of-Business&id=344198

mocrosoft's busy multitasking

When Microsoft announced plans in April to spend billions more than expected on its business, the top Wall Street analyst following the company said, It sounds like you're building a Google or building a Yahoo! http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003157671_microsoft28.html ____________________________
